There are other "natural" pads available to the consumer, but Natracare Pads and Panty Liners are the only non-chlorine bleached products available in the US that do not use pulp from ancient, endangered North American forests. Natracare uses only pulp from a Scandinavian mill that uses a forest management system that sets environmental standards for the pulp and paper industry worldwide. The issue of using endangered North American forests for feminine hygiene products is the focus of a current worldwide Greenpeace Awareness Campaign.

Natracare Pads and Panty Liners are not manufactured using CTMP (Chemo-Thermal Mechanical Processing). This process requires a high input of energy. Toxic sulfur compounds along with resin acids and other wood wastes make CTMP waste highly toxic to fish and very difficult to biodegrade. Pads made with this process break up and clump. Natracare Pads and plastic-free, breathable Panty Shields are made from hydrogen-peroxide bleached pulp so they are comfortable and reliable and do not "clump".
